Blurring the lines between sectors

I came across a great blog post today, and decided to comment on it here. I think the lines between nonprofit, business and government sectors have been blurred and it’s for the better. Who is to say the current models are ideal and don’t need to be challenged?

Mesh Keynote with Jessica Jackley, co-founder of Kiva.org

I attended #mesh09 and decided to share some of my notes. My favourite was the keynote with Jessica Jackley, co-founder of Kiva.org. Kiva Microfunds is an organization that allows people to lend money via the Internet to microfinance institutions in developing countries which in turn lend the money to small businesses. – Jessica nominated as [...]

I came across two Globe and Mail stories this morning: What I did on my layoff – take layoff as an opportunity and follow your heart; it may lead to a whole new career. The bad economy is no match for a good cause - Charities say donations, especially relatively small ones, are still pouring in [...]

How to Attract New Generation

In spite of the economic downturn, nonprofits seem to be well-positioned to survive and thrive, especially when it comes to attracting the young, ambitious, and technologically-savvy new generation of workers.  Meet the Millennials Born between 1981 and 2000, according to Generation Blend by Rob Salkowitz, among other books, this generation outnumbers the Baby Boomers.  This [...]

Contact Vs. Connect

Do you have a “Contact Us”, “Contact Me”, or any other type of the “Contact” page? This has been a web default for years, but the popularity of all-things-social got me thinking that what we often really want is to connect with other people. Not simply contact them. This is why I changed my own [...]
