Canadian Charities and Nonprofits Unite

..and that’s a good thing!
Canada’s charities and nonprofits will publish an open letter to Stephen Harper in newspapers across the country tomorrow, according to the recent industry mailout from Imagine Canada. The letter will urge the Prime Minister to consider the important role of our charities and nonprofits and the essential nature of services they provide, especially during the economic downturn.

This is a step forward for the nonprofit sector in its efforts to unite forces and stay on the radar at the crucial time when the government prepares to release its Economic Statement. Since any government is ultimately concerned with re-election, public endorsement of the role nonprofits and charities play in our society is the next most important step.

I am hoping the letter gets all the public attention it deserves. I am also hoping to see more organized communicaitons efforts like this one, online and offline, in the nonprofit world.
